Fredericksburg, Virginia

To help address the growing needs of the Fredericksburg area's youth, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation is building Sunshine Ballpark in partnership with the City of Fredericksburg. This facility, which has received outstanding support from the local community, will become the cornerstone for much of the Foundation's work in the region.

This unique, multipurpose facility is designed to use baseball and softball themed programs to address a variety of youth development needs that include character development, health and physical education, culture, and history.

A rendering of Sunshine Ballpark

Thanks to the motivation of a $1 million matching challenge from local philanthropist Doris Buffet, the Foundation is on its way to unveiling Phase I of Sunshine Ballpark in spring 2011. We will continue to raise funds for Phase II, which will include the Ability Field, specially designed for children with physical disabilities, and Phase III, which will include adding a third field.
