Stephen M. Coan President and CEO, Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration
Stephen M. Coan, Ph.D., is President and CEO of Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration with responsibility for all operations of the organization. He previously served as Vice President of Education. Coan is Principal Investigator of numerous grants focused on bringing telepresence from National Marine Sanctuaries and oceanographic expeditions. He is also Executive Director of Immersion Institute, a nationwide partnership of 16 informal learning institutions including Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Prior to joining Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, he was Chief Education Officer at the JASON Foundation for Education for 11 years. At JASON he led the development of award winning curriculum, Internet systems, and telepresence programming. Coan is best known for his work with at-risk youth and has served as a Senior Advisor to the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation on after-school issues.

Kirk Dominick currently serves as the Executive Vice President, Services to Clubs for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in Atlanta, Georgia. Dominick has had a long and illustrious career with Boys & Girls Clubs. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greenville, North Carolina, he was the Southeast Region Youth of the Year, an honor bestowed on one club member each year. While attending East Carolina University, he returned to the Greenville Club as Program Director, Unit Director, and ultimately Executive Director of the Club in which he grew up. After achieving the goals that he set for Greenville, Dominick joined the national staff of Boys & Girls Clubs of America serving as a Regional Service Director in the Southeast Regional Office and eventually rising to the position of Senior Regional Service Director. Dominick left the regional service center to join Robbie Callaway and Steve Salem in the Government Relations Office in Washington, D.C. He oversaw creation of the State Alliance initiative to secure state funding for Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the United States. He served with distinction in this position until joining DNS Associates as its President. Dominick recently moved back to Greenville, North Carolina, where he resides with his wife, Barbara, son, Thomas, and daughter, Caroline.

The company commissions artists to paint memorable sporting events and then creates limited edition reproductions of the artwork. On behalf of LSP, Furfaro has secured licenses from Major League Baseball, The National Baseball Hall of Fame, The Collegiate Licensing Company, The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, and many individual players. Furfaro is also the owner and operator of KVA Communications, a company he founded in 1994. KVA provides computer hardware and software sales and service to small and mid-size companies throughout the New York City area. He is involved in local charitable activities and lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and two daughters.

Jennifer works for the Anne Arundel State's Attorney's Office and is also a realtor with Keller Williams. Jennifer is active in her community as well as local and national charitable organizations. She is a graduate of James Madison University. Jennifer resides in Edgewater, Maryland with her husband Steve, and three children, Lauren, Stephen, and Courtney.

Pat Kirk has been a community advocate for over 20 years, serving as Past President of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, Past Chair of the Maryland Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism, and in various positions on the Board of The Child Abuse Prevention Center of Maryland. Retired from Bell Atlantic in 1991, Pat also served for over 15 years as National Advisor to the Points of Light Foundation, National Council on Workplace Volunteerism. Pat, and her husband Don founded The Kirk Family Foundation in 2000.
Don Mathis President and CEO, Community Action Partnership
Mathis has over 35 years experience in managing, designing, and lobbying for children, youth, and family programs at the community, state, and national levels. He was instrumental in writing and getting passage of the national and community service legislation during the George H.W. Bush and Clinton administrations. He held a senior staff position with the federal Corporation for National and Community Service that included managing 600+ AmeriCorps volunteers at the 1996 Olympics. He directed the Pennsylvania Conservation Corps, the National Youth Employment Coalition, and currently heads up the national membership organization of more than 1,000 Community Action agencies. In 2002, Steven Ross joined the American Continental Group, LLC, a government relations and public affairs firm. He has more than 20 years of public affairs and political campaign experience. Prior to joining the firm, Ross was Vice President for New Business Development at National Media Inc., an issue advocacy and public policy advertising company. Before that, he served as Vice President for New Business Development at Shandwick Public Affairs. Ross got his political start during the Reagan administration and has since worked on a number of presidential campaigns. In 1988, he served as Lead Press Advance Representative for the George H. W. Bush for President campaign. In early 1989, he was assigned to the U.S. Department of Justice, where he served as Special Assistant to the Attorney General. From 1990 to 1993, Ross served as Special Assistant in the Office of External Affairs at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). During the 1996 Dole for President Campaign, he served as Press Tour Director and Director of Press Advance. During the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, he participated in numerous activities for the Bush/Cheney Campaign, including Senior Advisor to the RNC Conventions. Ross has traveled extensively with the President and Vice President as a member of the White House Advance team. Ross received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from American University and currently resides in Washington, D.C.

Deborah (Debby) L. Girvan was elected to the Fredericksburg City Council in 2004 and is a native Virginian. She earned a B.A. in Communications from George Mason University. She was an administrator at Boston University for 13 years. Prior to Boston University, she worked in the news department at WMAL Radio and at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C.
Girvan also serves on the Fredericksburg Social Services Board, the Board of Directors of the Rappahannock Area Agency on Aging, the City of Fredericksburg's Beautification Commission, and the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Affairs Committee. She has been active in local service organizations including the Junior Women's Club of Fredericksburg, the Fredericksburg Area Service League, and Women in the Giving Spirit (WINGS). She is a member of the Community Advisory Board of the Girl Scouts Commonwealth Council of Virginia. She is a founding member of the Professional Women’s Network of Fredericksburg. She is a member of the PTA at three city schools, serves as a Brownie leader, and is a former Cub Scout Den leader. Girvan is married to Dr. Ross J. Girvan, a Fredericksburg podiatrist, and is the mother of three children; Alexander, Emeleigh, and McKenzie.

Irv Blank is the Managing Partner at Paris Blank, LLP. He was admitted to the bar, 1967, Virginia; 1972, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, and U.S. Supreme Court; 1978, District of Columbia. Blank is an alumnus of Virginia Tech and T.C.Williams School of Law, University of Richmond. Blank is the author of "Trial Tactics for Premise Liability Cases," The Journal of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Summer, 1994. He also served as Treasurer of the Virginia Congressional Committee in 1985, was a member of the Executive Committe for the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council from 1981-1984 and 1991-1994, served on the National Council of AIPAC from 1982-1988 and 1992-1995, was a part of the Commonwealth of Virginia's Virginia-Israel Commission from 1986-1988 and the Virginia-Israel Partnership from 1994-1996, served on the Board of Directors of the Central Virginia Legal Aid, Inc., continues to participate on the Virginia Israel Advisory Board since 1996, and also is a part of the Panel of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association. Prior to joining the United Way, Brach was the Director of Community Affairs for the Department of Defense in Germany and Director of Development for the American Lung Association of West Virginia. Brach holds a Bachelors degree in Public Relations from West Virginia University. She lives in Mechanicsville, Virginia, with her two children, Jay and Kasey.

Carroll Bruner is Vice President of Foreign Exchange for BB&T Capital Markets in Richmond, Virginia. Bruner has dedicated a large part of his life to working with disadvantaged children. He served on the local Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond for more than 20 years, served as the organizations President, and is the recipient of Boys & Girls Clubs of America Medallion for unusually devoted service to youth. In addition to Bruner’s local service to the Boys & Girls Clubs, Bruner served as a Liaison to Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Area Council. He and his wife, Terri, reside in Richmond, Virginia. One of their favorite activities has been was following their son's baseball career at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia.
Jim Cluverius is a member of Hirschler Fleischer's business section. Cluverius has a broad-based general business practice including; general and corporate commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, administrative law, real estate, environmental law, employment law, and trust and estates.
Cluverius received his B.A. from the University of Virginia. He received his J.D. from Washington & Lee University, cum laude, where he was the associate editor of the Washington & Lee Law Review. Cluverius is a member of the Richmond, Virginia, and American Bar Associations, as well as the Virginia State Bar. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Richmond Bar (1996-2000). Tim Davey is the Principal of Urban and Economic Development Services for Timmons Group, a 350 person regional consulting firm located in Richmond, Virginia. Davey co-founded the Richmond Ballpark Initiative (RBI) which explored a proposal for a mixed use urban ballpark village in downtown Richmond. Prior to moving to Richmond, Davey worked for CSX Transportation with various management assignments within Virginia and Maryland. He is a 1985 graduate of Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. Davey has been an active member of the Greater Richmond Chamber and is currently serving as a Chairman Circle Member. He is also on the Board and executive Committee of Venture Richmond, the Urban Land Institute – Richmond, and the Greater Richmond Association for Commercial Real Estate Professionals. Marla Graff Decker is the Deputy Attorney General for the Public Safety & Enforcement Division of Virginia. Decker has previously served in a variety of roles within the government and has assisted with drafting and reviewing criminal legislation for over 24 years. She has served as the coordinator of several anti-gang, anti-terrorism initiatives, and a variety of Attorneys General supported criminal laws since 2003. Recently she has been appointed Supervisor for the City of Richmond Gang Reduction Program and has become a pivotal member in reducing gang activity in targeted neighborhoods. A graduate of the Gettysburg College and University of Richmond Law, Marla resides in Richmond, Virginia, with her husband, Chip.
Doug Ehlers is a Sales Representative for Lindenmeyr Munroe Paper Merchants in Richmond, Virginia. He joined Lindenmeyr in 1997 and helps cover Richmond, Charlottesville, and the Shenandoah Valley. M. Wayne Huggins is the Executive Director of the Virginia State Police Association. He started his career in law enforcement over 30 years ago as a Virginia State Trooper, and since then has been a member of the U.S. Secret Service’s Executive Protective Services, Sheriff of Fairfax County, and Superintendent of the Virginia State Police. In 1990, President George H. Bush appointed Huggins Director of the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Institute of Corrections. After three years he went on to serve as Executive Director of the Commission on Accreditation for the Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA) and President/General Manager of OMNISEC International Investigations before returning to work with the Virginia Sate Police Association. Huggins has won numerous awards, has been published several times, and has served on numerous boards and committees for a long list of law enforcement and corrections associations. When not fighting crime, he enjoys sports and the outdoors. Huggins resides in Midlothian, Virginia, with his wife, Wanda, and their three children; Sarah, Wayne, Jr., and Jake.

Todd McFarlane

Todd McFarlane is the President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond. McFarlane has previously served in many different roles for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and has continued to work for the positive growth and development of the youth in his community. Prior to becoming President and CEO, he most recently served as the Director of Operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond. His was also a past Assistant Director and Director of Operations at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond, McFarlane has served as Director of the Petersburg Unit, Director of Outreach Services, Unit Director and Program Director of the West End Unit, and Athletic Director of the Central Unit. McFarlane lives in Richmond with his wife, Anna, and children, Tatum and Alexa. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball and golf.

Milam received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Virginia. In his volunteer work he serves as President of the William Dudley Foundation, a group that raises college scholarship funds for Richmond-area athletes, and is on the advisory board of the University of Virginia School for Continuing & Professional Studies. He is also the past director of the Richmond District of the Virginia Athletic Foundation. Milam resides in Richmond, Virginia, with his wife, Wilma.

Richard November is known throughout the Richmond community for his leadership in civic and philanthropic endeavors as well as for being a successful residential real estate developer. In 1965, he founded Delami Corporation and 10 years later established Continental Development Corporation and serves as President. November was a General Partner in the Virginia Industrial Interport Associates and is serving as Co-Chairman of the Fidelity Group, L.L.C., a local real estate investment group. He has served as Assistant Treasurer, Treasurer, and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Jewish Community Federation and assumed the Presidency of the Federation in 1998.
Doug Roth serves as the Senior Vice President for the Richmond metropolitan area responsible for the coordination and promotion of the Bank's image while overseeing and participating in all business development and marketing activities including professional, civic, and community affairs. Roth provides sales leadership and management of 12 middle market relationship managers and respective team of assistants, along with indirect accountability for two corporate bankers, nine small business specialists, and 49 area retail branches.
He is currently very involved in the Richmond community, serving as a Board Member for the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, Richmond Sports Backers, United Way of Greater Richmond, and Richmond LISC. He is also a past chairman of Junior Achievement of Central Virginia and a founding member of the Virginia Council of CEO's. He has two children and currently resides in Richmond, Virginia.
