| Youth enjoying learning new skills |
Cal, Sr. used to say, “Everything you do in baseball you do in life, and everything you do in life you do in baseball,” a philosophy passed on to Cal, Jr. and Bill Ripken, which today inspires all Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation programming. Using baseball and softball activities as a hook to get youth excited and engaged, Foundation programs are well positioned to teach vital life lessons, which apply to life both on and off the field, while simultaneously connecting youth to caring and supportive adult mentors.
Since programming began in 2003 the Foundation has impacted over 630,000 youth, 2,700 coaches and teachers, and awarded $9.3 million in funding and equipment grants. By providing funding, equipment, and programs including Healthy Choices, Healthy Children, Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation Summer Camps, and instructional youth and coaching clinics in “The Ripken Way” to some of America’s most successful youth serving organizations the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation works to inspire the leaders of tomorrow. Organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs, City Recreation Departments, Police Athletic Leagues, schools, and other community based organizations implement Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation programs in 48 states and over 400 towns and communities.
