Strategic Communities
Research shows that programs which involve the entire community and are sustained over a long period of time, inspiring cooperation and collaboration, are destined for success.
With this in mind, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation is working in selected communities across America to build supportive neighborhoods and serve as a “Community-Change Agent” by working with multiple local partners (Boys & Girls Clubs, P.A.L, law enforcement, schools, Parks & Recreation Departments, etc.) to develop a collaborative model of service delivery for at-risk young people in communities where negative influences limit their potential, compromise their health, impair their sense of self, and generally restrict their chances for leading productive lives. In these communities, referred to as our Strategic Communities, there is a strong demonstrated local need and Ripken Foundation programs are embraced by local community leaders. The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation is reaching out to strategic communities to establish programmatic partnerships engaging elected officials, law enforcement agencies, community based organizations, schools, youth, and their families, and building a culture of positive character development across communities. While the specific needs may vary, the goal remains the same, provide deserving young people with opportunities to learn life’s critical lessons and teach them the importance of making healthy and productive choices in their young lives which will improve the odds that at-risk youth can make successful transitions to adulthood. |
