Teamwork
Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron
Perhaps the most skilled demonstration of teamwork ever to be seen, the United States Navy’s Blue Angel team consistently defies the laws of gravity. This division of highly skilled pilots was first created at the end of World War II with the intention of inspiring the public’s interest in naval aviation. With just over 260 pilots to have ever been a part of the Blue Angels, this team is extraordinary not only for their great aerial feats but for their dedication and hard work. The Blue Angels consistently practice or perform five and six days a week, and have performed for over 427 million spectators since the squadron was formed.
Each demonstration features six highly trained pilots operating their jets just under the speed of sound while maneuvering their aircraft in incredible positions and formations. While the crowd is stunned with the aerial acrobatics, the pilots are literally putting their lives in each other’s hands, flying their aircrafts in formation, trusting their teammates to execute each maneuver with pinpoint precision. Each team member typically serves just two years as a member of the Blue Angels and is given specific roles and responsibilities based on their position in the aerial routines.
For over 60 years, the Blue Angels have wowed spectators across the world with their hairpin twists and turns at incredible speeds. As the years continued to progress and the members change, the routine and breathtaking show of teamwork remained. While the show certainly requires individual skill, the 260 plus pilots that have called themselves members of the “Blues” continue to dazzle proud Americans with their teamwork to accomplish great aerial feats.
