The Intern Experience - Ann Bradley Lewis

Aug 03, 2017
Our interns are still hard at work helping prepare for our next camp weeks - that's right we have TWO weeks of camp coming up in August, so be on the lookout for fun pictures and updates soon! But this week, we wanted to highlight the work of another intern - Ann Bradley "AB" Lewis. Here's a little bit from Ann Bradley about her experience so far!
Here's Ann Bradley posing with Annie the bloodhound at camp!

My short time interning with the Cal Ripken Sr., Foundation thus far has been rewarding yet impactful as I’ve gotten to experience working with at-risk youth from all across country. When I first started with the Foundation, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I quickly learned how passionate and friendly every employee is with everyone working together to help these children be the best they can be.

On June 1st, the fellow interns and I jumped right into work leading up for the first week of camp. I was excited because everyone in the office talked about how great camp is and I was looking forward to being part of the experience. When I was little, I remember going to camp thinking of it as the best week of my life and that’s exactly how it was for these kids.
Right off the bus, the campers and chaperones were smiling with excitement as they got to meet the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation staff and get some cool new gear! Throughout the week, campers worked with law enforcement officers, baseball coaches, and the Travis Manion foundation learning about character and respect. During my time at camp, I was able to get to know some of the campers and be a positive role model for them.

Working at the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation has taught me the importance of being part of something bigger than yourself. While we might not realize it at the time, our impact on these children will affect them for the rest of their lives. Knowing that I was part of making their experience amazing by getting to know the campers was truly rewarding. I’m excited to challenge myself and continue to be that person that these campers can look up to at our August camps!

Be sure to follow the interns on twitter at @Intern_CRSF to see what they are up to throughout the summer!
