Building Healthier Communities

Volunteerism and engagement are very important parts of our corporate partnerships which allow us to give back to communities and the youth-serving organizations we partner with throughout the year.

Launched in 2014, the goal of our Community Enhancement Project initiative was to engage employees of major corporate partners and to revitalize community spaces in need of updating or repair. With the help of Group1001, Niagara Cares, and UnitedHealthcare, we have been able to enhance fitness, nutrition, and wellness programming as well as STEM education at our program sites across the country, while also giving opportunities to volunteer in the communities they work and live.

With the help of hundreds of employee volunteers, we have impacted over 120,000 people with some of the following community-based initiatives: constructing and renovating community gardens; outfitting school weight rooms and food pantries; cooking and serving healthy meals; providing sports equipment and sports-themed youth development programming; hosting sports clinics; and more.

Team8 Tour

In 2016, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation partnered with UnitedHealthcare to create the Team8 Tour. This transformational initiative, allows corporate volunteers to roll up their sleeves to build, renovate, beautify, and bring joy to underserved communities across the U.S. through local Community Enhancement Projects.

The Team8 Tour’s Community Enhancement Projects bring corporate volunteers together for good to serve in the communities that they live and work. Over a two-day period, UnitedHealthcare employees volunteer to transform spaces in schools and local community centers, creating healthy spaces for underserved youth to engage in positive youth development programs such as fitness and nutrition education.

Some of the recent communities the Team8 Tour served include Gibsonton, FL; Greensboro, NC; Richmond, VA; San Antonio, TX; and Seattle, WA.
