#ThankYourMentor Day

Jan 25, 2018

Today is #ThankYourMentor Day! As part of National Mentoring Month, today we take the time to show appreciation for the people who impacted our lives. Mentors take time out of their lives to work with others to help them learn and grow. Mentoring doesn’t end when you’re “no longer a child” – many adults with successful careers credit their growth to a mentor within their industry.

On this #ThankYourMentor Day, here are some simple ways to show appreciation for the mentor(s) in your life!

1. Tell them! - Nothing is as simple to do as saying “thank you!” It means a lot to mentors to hear as well. Be sure to thank them beyond today as well – you can never say “thank you” too often.

2. Write them a card or letter – Everyone loves receiving a card or letter from someone they care about, and it’s a great way to show your appreciation. It doesn’t have to be novel-length, but a short, thoughtful thank you note goes a long way!

3. Make them something – put your creativity to good use and make something that comes from the heart. A picture you drew, cookies you baked, a hat you crocheted, or even a poem you wrote – something that took time for you to create to show how much they mean is a great way to show appreciation. This doesn’t have to be elaborate or even cost a lot (or any) money, but creativity

4. Nominate them for awards – Mentors and volunteers give up time with their family and friends to be with mentees, and this is no small task. Many organizations host awards for people who make a difference in their communities. When you see an opportunity to recognize your mentor, take the time to do so!

These are just a few ideas, but there is no right or wrong way to show your gratitude and appreciation. How are you showing your thanks today?
