Tuesdays with Travis: 6,421

Apr 23, 2013

6,421 is the number of miles I traveled for events from 4/11 – 4/19.  Over that nine day span, we hosted events in Los Angeles, CA, Bridgeport, CT, and Norfolk, VA.   Each event was action packed and all of them were really rewarding experiences.

Los Angeles:

In Los Angeles, we held a Badges for Baseball training for the Challengers Boys & Girls Club and Hollenbeck Police Activities League.  Participants were introduced to the concepts and materials of the Badges for Baseball program along with a variety games and group management techniques from our partner Playworks.

We also helped facilitate two baseball clinics for Jackie Robinson Day in conjunction with Major League Baseball’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities Program.  Around 600 kids attended the clinics at the Angels and Dodgers Stadiums.

Bridgeport:

In Bridgeport, we held a Badges for Baseball training with the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the new Youth Development Park.  Over 50 people came out to celebrate the dedication of the NAPA Auto Parts Field.

Norfolk:

In Norfolk, we partnered with Old Dominion University to bring 33 kids out to their baseball game.  The kids enjoyed a talk from one of the assistant coaches, pictures with the mascot, and free hot dogs!
