Tuesdays with Travis: Introducing Flags for Fitness

Apr 09, 2013

Here at the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, we are always looking for ways to provide more material and opportunities to our partners. One of the ways we are doing that is by expanding on our current Healthy Choices, Healthy Children curriculum with new editions that delve into specific topics, such as fitness and nutrition.

Another way we are doing that is by providing materials on other sports.  The first sport we chose was flag football.  Last year, we wrote a flag football practice guide that we call “Flags for Fitness,” with the help of Tom LaNeve, who has worked with the NFL and USA Football for years.

“Flags for Fitness” has a number of offensive and defensive drills along with a few competition games that can be used to teach any skill level.  We plan to continue writing materials on other sports—like basketball, soccer, or even volleyball—in the hopes that you can use them in your programs.

Please check out the “Flags for Fitness” practice guide under “Planning Field Activities” in the Materials section and let us know what you think!

Which sports are really popular with your kids?
