Welcoming kids to our first summer camp of the year

May 28, 2013

Later today, we will be welcoming about 100 boys and girls from Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Oklahoma.  While some kids are traveling by bus, the majority of our campers will be flying (for the first time in many cases!) to Maryland for our first camp of the year.

The kids come from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation’s program partners across the country, and camp provides an opportunity to reward those who have exemplified the lessons learned in Healthy Choices, Healthy Children and Badges for Baseball.

So what will they be doing?  Of course, they’ll get to play baseball on our beautiful youth fields in Aberdeen, Maryland.  And as with every camp, they’ll also get to experience new things, challenge themselves on a ropes course, sleep in cabins, meet friends from other states, and enjoy the chance to just be a kid.

This week, we also have an exciting line up of guest presenters and coaches: demonstrations from the Maryland National Guard; guest speaker Ernie Graham; and coaches from the US Marshals Service, LexisNexis, and the Maryland State Police!

We’ll be blogging every day this week, so keep checking back daily!  We will also be tweeting updates and pictures, so if that’s more your speed, follow us on Twitter: @CalRipkenSrFdn, @Bobby_CRSF, @Brooke_CRSF, @Carmen_CRSF, @Chris_CRSF, @Flynn_CRSF, @Janice_CRSF, @Jeff_CRSF, @Travis_CRSF, @Rosina_CRSF.
