A winning team helps communities in need

Jan 02, 2020

One tour. 10 cities. Hundreds of volunteers. This wraps up the 2019 Team8Tour! Together with our corporate partners at UnitedHealthcare through their Do Good.Live Well. Initiative and the Team8 Tour, the Ripken Foundation and UHC volunteers worked to build, renovate, beautify, and bring joy to underserved communities around the U.S.  The goal of the initiative is to encourage young people across the country to make healthy choices, build character, and learn critical life lessons that will inspire them to be catalysts for positive social change. In 2019, we visited ten cities across the U.S. including Baltimore, MD; Denver, CO; Los Angeles, CA; Charlotte, NC; Las Vegas, NV; Richmond, VA; Columbus, OH; Dallas, TX; Milwaukee, WI; and Pittsburgh, PA.

Over the course of the Tour, UnitedHealthcare and the Ripken Foundation volunteers impacted thousands of people with local projects such as construction and renovations of community gardens, outfitting of school weight rooms and food pantries, cooking and serving healthy meals, providing sports equipment and sports-themed youth development programming, hosting sports clinics, and more. We are planning to continue the Team8 Tour in 2020 to impact more communities through sports-themed initiatives that will encourage volunteerism, and impact thousands of deserving children in need of positive direction.
