Power of Impact in the Community: James Mosher

April 4, 2025

For nearly a decade, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation has partnered with the James Mosher Baseball League - the oldest continuously operating African American youth baseball league in the country - to create meaningful opportunities for Baltimore City's youth. In 2016, the Foundation built a turf field in West Baltimore, names Eddie Murray Field at BGE Park after another Orioles Hall of Famer. This park has become the official home field of the James Mosher Baseball League, creating a powerful force for change through our collaboration.quote

"The game changer was being able to gift a turf home field to the community - a beautiful, clean, and safe place for kids to play and learn," said Steve Salem, President & CEO of the Ripken Foundation. Since the field's dedication, more than 3,200 local kids have participated in the Ripken Foundation's Instructional Leagues and its signature program, Badges for Baseball, where law enforcement officers serve as coaches and mentors both on and off the field.

With every pitch, swing, and lesson learned, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and James Mosher Baseball League are building brighter futures for Baltimore City's youth, one game at a time.
