Foundation Fights Food Insecurity with SpringSpirit

Jul 06, 2020

In continuing our effort to combat food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic, we partnered with both Eden Green Technology and Performance Foodservice -- Houston, to provide food to over 200 families in Houston, TX associated with SpringSpirit's youth programs. Thanks to our dedicated Ripken Foundation Board Member and SpringSpirit founder, Kenny Baldwin, we were able to further our impact in underserved communities during these trying times.

“When Kenny reached out and told us that they were dealing with food insecurity in their community we wanted to help as quickly as possible,” said Cal Ripken, Jr.  “We have temporarily shifted our focus to help in this fight and the families affiliated with SpringSpirit are a wonderful group that we wanted to assist. Thanks to new friends, Eden Green Technology and Performance Foodservice – Houston, the families in Houston are getting the food they need.”

Eddy Badrina, CEO of Eden Green Technology said, “We’re thrilled to partner with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and help SpringSpirit deliver much-needed and nutritious food to their Houston families. We believe this is just the first of many opportunities to provide local produce to communities in need, not just in Texas, but around the nation.”

This food distribution effort is part of the Foundation’s current focus to aid communities lacking food and other resources during the COVID-19 pandemic through the Strike Out Hunger campaign. In partnership with Feeding America, Strike Out Hunger has distributed over 3.4 million meals to families in need. To learn more about how you can join our team to Strike Out Hunger, click here.
