The Ripken Foundation Celebrates National Volunteer Week

Apr 20, 2020

Today marks the start of National Volunteer Week! So, each day we will be highlighting some of our dedicated volunteers on social media, including: UnitedHealthcare’s Team8Tour, Niagara Cares, the Under Armour Freedom Initiative, and Devon Energy. Each of these corporate partners and their employees have helped us impact so many at-risk youth across the country through Community Enhancement Projects or STEM initiatives.  Here is a glimpse of the impact we have had collaboratively:

UnitedHealthcare
Over the past seven years, we have partnered with over 2,300 UnitedHealthcare volunteers from the Team8Tour for a total of 34 local projects, such as, construction and renovations of community gardens, outfitting of school weight rooms and food pantries, cooking and serving healthy meals, providing sports equipment and sports-themed youth development programming, hosting sports clinics, and more, impacting over 32,700 kids across America.

Niagara Cares
Our partnership with Niagara Cares began four years ago, and 11 projects later, we paired over 1,300 Niagara Bottling employee volunteers with local law enforcement and youth partners. Together we have renovated and revitalized youth-serving organizations and fitness facilities to provide a cleaner and safer afterschool environment for over 27,000 at-risk youth.

Under Armour
Since 2018, we have partnered with Under Armour’s UA Freedom Initiative to engage over 150 military members and first responders in renovating local youth centers. Upon completing these projects, we establish our signature Badges for Baseball program with these same mentors so they may continually impact the over 600 children in the communities they serve.

Devon Energy
Devon Energy has been a major supporter of our Ripken STEM Center Initiative, sponsoring 48 of our 56 STEM Centers, including on in each of the 33 public elementary schools in Oklahoma City, OK. Devon Energy has also mobilized 40 of their own volunteers, 140 Home Depot employee volunteers, and over 650 teachers to donate their time to help assemble our STEM Centers to help us bring STEM learning to underserved communities across America.

Check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as we celebrate the awesome work of our partners throughout National Volunteer Week!
