Robert Callaway, Sr. Field at Group 1001 Park is Open!

Apr 26, 2022

On April 22, 2022, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation opened its first Youth Development Park on police department property. Our newest park is located in Prince George's County’s Palmer Park neighborhood, right behind the police department! In partnership with the Police Athletic League, we will reach thousands of children on this new, safe, multipurpose space, in one of the highest crime counties in the area and the country. This historic field was named in memory of Robert Callaway, Sr., World War II hero and long-time community resident – and late father of CRSF board member Robbie Callaway. Thousands of children will be able to learn, play, and grow in this new safe, clean, multipurpose, outdoor recreational space year-round.

We would like to thank our generous donors that made this milestone possible: Group 1001, State of Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, Prince George’s County, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Executive, and Prince George’s County Police Athletic League.
