Food Alphabet: Today's Nutrition Play of the Day

Jun 24, 2020

Often when we get hungry and crave a snack, we reach for unhealthy options because they are easy to grab, and tasty, too! In today’s Nutrition Play of the Day from the Ripken Playbook, you will create a Food Alphabet to help you learn about healthy and delicious snack alternatives.

Materials

  • Pencil/Pen
  • Paper

Food Alphabet

Write every letter of the alphabet vertically on a piece of paper. Beside each letter write the date for the next 26 days.

  • Brainstorm healthy snacks and write them beside the letter of the alphabet which corresponds with the first letter of the snack’s name. For example, 6/25, A – apple, apricots; 6/26, B – blueberries, bananas.
  • If you cannot think of a snack for each letter of the alphabet, don’t worry!
  • Your challenge is to eat every snack on your Food Alphabet for the next 26 days. Talk with the adult who goes food shopping in your house about your plan and adjust your plan with them accordingly. Share with your family your list of favorite healthy snacks so you can all enjoy healthy snacking!

Maybe now instead of grabbing chips or cookies when you want a snack, you’ll try carrots instead!
